Amazon Senior Accountant, Merger & Acquisition Accounting in Seattle, Washington

Description

This position will be responsible for supporting accounting and reporting functions for Amazon’s equity investments, consisting of equity warrants, equity-method investments, marketable equity securities, and other equity and debt security investments. This Senior Accountant is expected to support month-end close processes, and monthly/quarterly reporting for SEC filings and management reviews. This position will have a strong ownership, and an ability to identify and implement process improvements that drive team efficiency and scalability. The role will also require partnering and collaborating with key partners within accounting, finance, legal, and the business.

Experience with accounting for financial instruments is considered a plus.

Key job responsibilities

• Supporting month-end accounting activities, including preparation/review of journal entries and account reconciliations.

• Preparing monthly and quarterly management deliverables and SEC reporting support.

• Tracking equity instrument vesting, gathering investee financial statements, and analyzing results to ensure accurate measurement of our equity investments

• Analyzing and explaining account balance fluctuations.

• Identifying and implementing process improvement opportunities to reduce manual effort.

• Assisting with valuation modeling for financial instruments, including collaborating with third-party valuation firms on preparation of various fair value reports.

• Researching, providing, and communicating technical accounting guidance

• Ensuring compliance of appropriate accounting policies and internal controls

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of finance or a related analytical field experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of Fortune 500 operational accounting experience

  • CPA

  • Knowledge of internal control framework (specifically COSO) to assess control design and operational efficiency

  • Knowledge of GAAP research tools and the FASB codification

  • Experience in accounting management in Big Four with Fortune 500 clients

  • Experience researching and documenting support for accounting conclusions

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $56,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $128,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
