You will manage the delivery of all HSE activities in a manufacturing facility or commercial areas (offices, Sales, Warehouses) , including standards & procedures, capability processes, reporting, compliance and audit. That means you will define and review standards and legislation applicable to site, validate design for HSE into projects and modifications, and support defined work processes (e.g. IIM pillar) to improve HSE application and effectiveness. How you will contribute

You will:

  • Co-ordinate implementation of all HSE programs and processes. Prepare and build consensus annual plans for facility/function wide HSE initiatives

  • Plan/Budget/Control annual capital budget for HSE to enable execution of the HSE plan and adherence to all internal and external compliance standards

  • Provide HSE expertise for the facility/function for all new projects and change management activities

  • Ensure appropriate risk assessments are conducted and follow ups implemented to minimize or eliminate accidents, asset losses that might cause harm to one of the company’s employees, contractors, visitors

  • Ensure that the appropriate talent is in place through training, mentoring, and succession planning and supports development and learning capabilities of Safety specialists

  • Ensure the facility standards are in compliance with both Company and governmental/community regulations

  • Ensure training and coaching are taking place to drive a safety-perfect culture and to ensure safety standards and awareness are well understood throughout the plant organization

Job Purpose

As HSE Manager you will ultimately provide support to the plant and assist with achieving the specific HSE Mondelez Objectives of the organization.

This job is responsible for the implementation, facilitation and maintenance of all Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental programs and processes at the Mondelez Manufacturing unit thereby ensuring a safe working environment prevention of asset losses, guaranteed compliance with relevant and applicable local Health and Safety and Environmental regulations and Mondelez policies, standards and procedures.

Key Accountabilities

  • Responsible for managing, coordinating and overseeing implementation of all Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) programs and processes at the plant in line with IL6S.

  • Participate in all regional HSE alignment activities and drive standardization for the Gqeberha plant accordingly

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and Mondelez policies and continuous improvement in key identified measures and objectives

  • Prepare and build consensus annual plans for plant wide HSE initiatives

  • Oversee implementation of company HSE management systems

  • Provide leadership and administration to overall HSE program

  • Develop HSE performance standards for facility

  • Lead and coordinate site audits and ensure compliance

  • Ensure appropriate risk assessments are conducted and follow-ups implemented

  • Ensure training and coaching for HSE is executed

  • Serve as primary point of contact for all HSE regulatory contacts

  • Take full responsibility for the Site Safety Pillar.

  • Lead emergency response planning

  • Ensure that all the facilities services to the site is managed to provide facilities support as needed within budget.

  • Ensure compliance with LOTO on assets for the site.

  • Lead the sustainability agenda for the site.

Job Specific Requirements:

  • Degree/B-Tech in Safety Management/Engineering and or equivalent

  • SAMTRAC or NEBOSCH Qualification would be advantageous

  • Sound knowledge of HSE standards, audits and systems implementation

  • Good IT skills, experience in manufacturing systems such as SAP, MFG / Pro would be advantageous

  • Excellent knowledge of manufacturing processes as well as knowledge of CI, Quality and SHREQ principles

  • Extensive experience in a manufacturing environment, with a minimum of 5 years of management experience

  • Exposure to a shop floor with an unionized environment

  • Knowledge of maintenance, engineering, procurement, CS&L as well as labour relations

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and be fluent in English

  • The ability to plan, organize and drive for results while constantly measuring the quality, cost and delivery.

  • The ability to analyse situations and make decisions that will have a strategic and long term solution to problems ensuring that they do not occur again

  • Excellent business acumen and an extensive knowledge of business operations and how they integrate, its goals, challenges, values, strategic vision and expected ways of operation

  • The ability to not just be a leader who motivates, leads by example and continuously challenges his team and the status quo to change and evolve.

It is expected that you will:

  • Carry out the role accountabilities within the operating and process frameworks that apply to all facilities in our company.

  • Work together with all your peers and customers. A key part of your performance review each year will be based on key stakeholder input.
