JPMorgan Chase Public Finance - Short Term Trading - Associate in New York, New York

The public finance short term trading team is responsible for trading and remarketing short term products including VRDBs, TOBs, Commercial Paper, short term notes and bonds.The team also provides funding solutions to investor clients through Tender Option Bond (TOB) and preferred financing. As a Short Term Trading Associate you will work across these products, with direct engagement with both issuer and investor clients. The role will focus on data analytics, process improvement and technology solutions.

Public Finance Overview

J.P. Morgan has an industry-leading Public Finance platform serving the investment banking needs of municipalities, non-profits, and taxable/tax-exempt fixed income investors.

  • Public Finance Issuer clients include state & local government, transportation, energy, housing, higher education, non-profit healthcare and corporate-backed sectors

  • Public Finance Investor clients include asset managers, mutual funds, money market funds, insurance companies, corporations, hedge funds, high net worth individuals, and retail investors

The municipal market is $3.8 trillion in size with $400 billion in annual issuance and over 50,000 different issuers. J.P. Morgan maintains a 12-15% market share and is routinely ranked #1 in issuance and with counterparties.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Trader covering institutional accounts and making markets in CP, short term notes and bonds, with focus on direct engagement with investors

  • Market TOB and preferred financing products to investors, evaluate pricing and manage internal risks

  • Track market dynamics and investor demand; focus on advanced data analytics to provide actionable insights

  • Work with trading and technology teams to streamline and increase automation of short term desk processes

  • Manage risk, liquidity and exposure across short term products, conduct pre- and post-trade analysis

  • Communicate directly with issuer clients and bankers to provide market updates and manage CP needs

  • Place new issue and CP rolls, set daily and weekly VRDB rates

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills:

  • Experience in municipal bonds and knowledge of short-term products and markets

  • Focus on data analysis and ability to identify impactful optimization and technology solutions

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and process new information quickly

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with clients and stakeholders

  • Team player with a positive attitude and strong work ethic
