As a Vocational Support Specialist, you'll be responsible for providing on-site and off-site training and support for clients during skill development, career planning, and employment retention. This includes conducting instructional activities related to soft skills, work skills, and independent living skills. You may also be responsible for locating competitive job sites, contacting employers, and conducting job site analyses. Throughout the process, you'll contribute to and/or develop individualized service plans, monitor and report on client progress, and ensure services provided align with authorizations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Treat all clients, referral sources, stakeholders, and team members with dignity and respect

  • Adhere to confidentiality, CARF, and contractual standards during service provision

  • Maintain flexibility in work availability, including evenings, weekends, and overnight shifts

  • Develop and maintain knowledge of disabilities and assistive technology/accommodations

  • Compile and review client information to assist with skill development and career planning

  • Contribute to and/or develop individualized service plans and conduct planned activities

  • Coordinate paid, work-based learning experiences with clients

  • Transport clients to carry out goals and objectives in their service plans

  • Monitor and report on client progress toward service plan goals

  • Ensure authorizations for services are current and utilization does not exceed limits

  • Complete required reporting and documentation for services provided

  • Instruct and facilitate clients' pre-vocational/vocational, social, and independent living skills

  • Establish community-based sites for skill development and career planning activities

  • Provide on-site job supports to assist clients with learning, performing, and acclimating to work

  • Implement job support techniques to accommodate client needs and learning styles

  • Serve as a liaison between employers, clients, and co-workers

  • Educate employers and facilitate job accommodations as needed

  • Provide off-site job supports such as coordinating additional services and transportation

  • Facilitate long-term employment success through on-site/off-site job supports

  • Respond to crisis situations that may occur with clients at their worksite

  • Maintain frequent contact with referral sources and provide customer service to employers

  • Teach and reinforce job seeking and job retention skills with clients

  • Create employer relationships and provide customer service to develop employment opportunities

  • Serve as an advocate for clients with employers and other stakeholders

  • Promote the organization, services, and clients in a professional manner

Education and/or Experience Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent certificate required

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in an applicable field preferred

  • Experience in rehabilitation, employment services, case management, or social services preferred

Additional Qualifications:

  • Strong customer service and communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Skilled computer knowledge (Word, Excel, internet platforms, electronic media)

  • Understanding of supporting individuals with disabilities and/or barriers to employment, education, and independent living

Required Certifications:

  • Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)

  • Current driver's license with acceptable driving record and auto insurance

  • Reliable and acceptable means of transportation to transport clients
