CAE USA INC Director, U.S. Tax in Montreal (St. Laurent), Canada

Role and Responsibilities

The Director, U.S. Tax, reports to the Vice-President or Vice-President, Global Tax, and is responsible for the tax implications of CAE's U.S. projects, including the assessment of U.S. tax issues, the recommendation of an effective tax structure to management, the implementation of the approved tax structure, the provision of tax on a quarterly basis, and the compliance of U.S. corporate returns. He or she assists the VP, Finance, in leading special U.S. tax planning projects related to financing, cash repatriation, new joint ventures and organizational restructuring of U.S. businesses.

He or she is responsible for the following tasks:

  • Support and ensure U.S. tax compliance for CAE's U.S. subsidiaries (1120F, 1042F, 5472F, installments, extension payments, Treaty-Based Returns, calculation 163[j], etc.).

  • Suggest appropriate tax planning for specific U.S. business purchase/sale and financing transactions.

  • Review consolidated and non-consolidated U.S. tax provisions on a quarterly and annual basis, plus update tax balances and financial accounting under IFRS.

  • Advise on the application of transfer pricing rules and review internal transfer pricing data for the U.S. Group.

  • Oversee audits carried out by government tax authorities for direct and indirect taxes in the United States.

  • Research and analyze U.S. domestic and foreign taxation of inbound and outbound investments (corporate income tax, withholding).

  • Establish detailed procedures describing the various functions related to ongoing tax compliance to be performed by service employees.

  • Monitor U.S. tax changes, advise management of their impact on CAE's business, and recommend actions to be taken.

  • Provide U.S. tax training to employees of CAE and its subsidiaries.

  • Modify or recommend modifications to the company's U.S. tax policies and procedures.

  • Manage and supervise the U.S. Tax Department Manager.

Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Taxation, Accounting or a related field.

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in U.S. tax law, including relevant experience in U.S. tax compliance and financial accounting.

  • Chartered Professional Accountant designation (CPA).

To perform these duties successfully, the candidate must possess:

  • Excellent writing skills in French and English, with the ability to communicate complex tax issues in an accessible way.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience with tax planning and strategy.

  • Excellent tax research skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, good judgment and strong business knowledge and skills to prioritize tasks and multitask.

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

  • Be an agent of change.
