Description

Our client is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant with expertise in Medicare and Medicaid cost reporting to join their healthcare organization. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in healthcare finance, exceptional analytical skills, and a deep understanding of regulatory compliance related to Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement. The Senior Accountant will not prepare or submit the Cost Reports, but must be knowledgeable enough of the processes to work with their specialized CPA firm that performs those tasks. This role will report into a Director that prioritizes her staff's well being and development, I've known worked with her for many years and seen this in action. This opportunity will provide plenty of growth, the right person will be able to lead new initiatives.

Responsibilities:

Medicare/Medicaid Cost Reporting:

  • Work with outside CPA firm that will lead the preparation and submission of Medicare and Medicaid cost reports, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Conduct comprehensive analyses of financial and operational data to support the preparation of cost reports and maximize reimbursement for healthcare services provided.

  • Stay abreast of changes in Medicare and Medicaid regulations, policies, and guidelines, advising senior management on potential impacts and opportunities.

Financial Analysis and Reporting:

  • Analyze financial statements, revenue cycle data, and reimbursement trends to identify variances, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement in revenue recognition and expense management.

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for internal stakeholders, providing insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making and financial planning.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Collaborate with departmental leaders to develop annual operating budgets and forecasts, incorporating insights from Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement trends and cost reporting analysis.

  • Monitor budget performance against targets, providing variance analysis and proactive recommendations to optimize resource allocation and financial performance.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations governing Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, including cost report submission deadlines, documentation requirements, and audit preparation.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement policies, providing guidance and training to staff members across the organization as needed.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with revenue cycle management, accounting, and other departments to streamline processes, enhance data integrity, and improve financial reporting accuracy related to Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement.

  • Act as a liaison with external auditors, government agencies, and regulatory bodies during audits and reviews of Medicare and Medicaid cost reports, providing documentation and support as required.

Requirements

• Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in an accounting role

• Proficiency in account reconciliation, balance sheet reconciliation, and bank reconciliations is necessary.

• Experience with general ledger management and journal entries is required.

• Must have strong skills in Microsoft Excel to manage and analyze financial data.

• Knowledge of Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Medicaid, and Medicare is beneficial.

• Should possess strong analytical skills and attention to detail for accurate report generation.

• Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with other departments.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
