This opportunity entails being responsible for supporting the core database and application server infrastructure within an organization. This position will be proficient in Structured Query Language (SQL) and relevant database technologies such as SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, IBM Db2, and MongoDB. Duties include managing database systems, ensuring data security and integrity, performing database recovery and backup, and providing technical leadership. This position also designs and implements databases according to end users’ needs, defines user access, and distributes data in a timely manner. Additionally, they may be involved in some development work and are expected to resolve database performance and capacity issues. This role requires excellent problem-solving skills, familiarity with database design, coding, and a strong understanding of database standards and end-user applications. Participates in 24/7 on-call rotation. Serves as escalation point for Service Desk and Level I network engineers.

What You’ll Do:

• Provides tier 2 support and maintenance of databases to meet daily operational needs. May act as escalation point if needed.

• Troubleshoots performance, stability and availability issues in a high volume and highly transactional database environment.

• May perform routine and regular database maintenance operations. Builds, documents, and deploys database objects based on best practices and industry standards with guidance.

• Installs and upgrades database software and replications and implements and maintains complex database security.

• Performs database tuning, performance monitoring, capacity management and automation tasks. Assists in the application of database updates and stand-alone hotfixes to environments, as well as evaluates processes for database management.

• Conducts database maintenance, maintains database backups, while also triaging and troubleshooting database alerts and issues, identifying root cause.

• Creates and maintains comprehensive documentation for supported database technologies.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Need:

• Associate’s Degree in Computer Science or related degree and 4 years of relevant experience, or

• In lieu of education, 6 years of relevant experience

What You'll Bring:

• Demonstrates an increased understanding of databases and IT operations.

• Recognizes database errors and is capable of diagnosing errors with increasing frequency.

• Capable of handling increasingly complex issues.

• Contributes to the documentation of departmental policies and procedures.

• Primarily follows established policies and procedures but begins suggest process improvements.

What We Prefer:

• 3 years database operations experience

• Proficiency in Structured Query Language (SQL) and relevant database technologies such as SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, IBM Db2, and MongoDB.

• Experience in data engineering, IT support, or systems administration.

• Ability to build, manage, and maintain databases and database processes.

• Ability to implement database patches and backup/recovery procedures.

• Proficiency in SQL, HTML, and software engineering principles.

• Knowledge of AWS, Azure, Google, IBM Cloud, and Cloud PaaS.

• Experience with installing, upgrading, and configuring Oracle tools across multiple platforms.

• Familiarity with ITIL process and ITIL framework.
