GuideOne Insurance Reinsurance Accountant (The Mutual Group) - Hybrid or On-site Opportunity in IA, United States

As the Reinsurance Accountant, you are responsible for the accounting and reporting of various tasks with respect to outside reinsurers, reinsurance brokers and related parties. In this position you will serve as the point person for reinsurance accounting questions and work closely with individuals in the Reinsurance and Finance space, and speaks to all reinsurance accounting results to senior leadership. You will ensure that the general ledger reflects all accounting transactions and prepares timely reconciliations.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the preparation of monthly or quarterly accounting entries for reinsurance.

  • Reviews profit commission accounts and adjust accordingly.

  • Prepares account reconciliations on a timely basis according to the established accounting policy.

  • Point person for reinsurance accounting. Provides oversight for reinsurance accounting product.

  • Speaks to Senior Management about Reinsurance Accounting when needed.

  • Responsible for the various internal/external reporting (Schedule F) and analysis.

  • Assists others in the department with various accounting and statutory reporting requirements (annual statement, quarterly statement, supplemental reporting).

  • Assist in preparation of confirmations for annual financial statement audit.

  • Monitor reinsurance receivable/payable balances to ensure timely collections.

  • Assist with counterparty credit analysis and collateral.

  • Assist Senior Reinsurance Manager with data and information requests for the treaty renewals and reinsurer audits.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Mathematics, Business, or Finance or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

  • Three or more years of work experience in reinsurance accounting.

  • Excellent working knowledge of property and casualty reinsurance.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Microsoft suite knowledge including strong Excel skills.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.

    Recommended Qualifications:

  • CPCU, AIAF, MBA and ARE certifications a plus.

  • Experience using Workday is a plus.

  • Experience using SQL is a plus.

*The successful candidate will initially be hired as an employee of GuideOne Insurance Company and automatically become an employee of TMG on the company's official transition date.
