Sr. Financial Analyst

SUMMARY

This position is to provide both operational and business oversight and recommendations within the department. Serves as department chief financial point person to the Division of Cancer Medicine and across the institution. This position will also provide direction, consultation and education to the department to assist them in a strategic and business operations as it relates to basic and clinical research.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

The primary purpose of the Sr Financial Analyst position is to provide analysis of business and management financial data for strategic financial planning and assist in implementing processes to maximize efficiencies, as required for efficient accounting management. Provides skilled accounting experience for a variety of department financial processes, including the preparation of the annual budget and daily management of the department accounting system. Impacts operational procedures and practices in the department. Performs special assignments as required and prepares detailed audit reports, cost reports, etc., for departmental and institutional use. The Department of Lymphoma and Myeloma has over 115 active clinical trials that are very complex to include CAR T and Byte.

KEY FUNCTIONS

Financial Administrative Support

· Manages clinical research financial analyst positions and provides guidance in day-to-day job functions.

· Works with regulatory budget team to ensure industry-sponsored clinical trials budget, amendment and sponsor's approval etc. capture the site all necessary costs incurred for reimbursement.

· Works with PIs and Regulatory Budget Team on LOI/IIT budgets. Makes recommendations on appropriate salary support needed for such budgets.

· Work collaboratively with Alliance teams to ensure proper fundings and costs incurred.

· Works with PI teams and/or Sponsors to resolve contract/budget discrepancies and/or lack of clarity, incorporates suggestions.

· Works with Regulatory, Budget and PI teams and CRF to review the preliminary and final versions of Coverage Analysis, assist CD revision, finalization and submission.

· Assists with strategic and long-range planning of departments' clinical trials program. This includes attending weekly clinical research review meetings and also ad hoc meetings for department chair and faculty to review new protocols for potential participation. Preparing revenue projections for clinical research to ensure program remains solid. Oversee spending trends to ensure budget are in alignment.

· Collaboratively works with all department clinical faculty to provide support for clinical trials goals.

· Conducts quality assurance on budgets created by the pre-award to ensure all budgetary items have been captured accurately.

· Provides training to clinical research finance personnel on performing post-award duties such as reconciling study accounts, submitting CORE fund revenue requests, Institutional fee transfers, invoicing per sponsor agreement, pre-review efforts cards etc.

· Assists with managing team workload and efficiency by managing assignments list.

· Collaborates with the department's protocol processing team to streamline protocol schema to achieve maximum efficiency of charges/cost.

Sponsor Negotiation and Interaction

· Participates in negotiations with industry sponsors and CRO's to process new and amended clinical trial budgets.

· Analyzes sponsors' budget proposals to determine if the proposed funding is adequate to cover costs associated with trials depending on their complexity, the frequency of patient visits, and the reporting requirements

· Counters proposals if required and finalizes budgets with the sponsor

· Ensures a quick turnaround time to complete budgets and activate studies in a timely manner to meet industry standards

Pre and Post-Award Files/Data

· Creates, updates and maintains files which include all pertinent correspondence and information regarding pre and post award activities for clinical trials.

· Assists in maintaining the Timelines database to ensure all pre-award information is verified and updated in a timely manner to allow the tracking of contract activation timelines.

· Assists in maintaining a database that will provide up-to-date financial information about all department sponsored trial and investigator-initiated funding.

· Ensures compliance with Good Clinical Research Practice standards

· Attends in-services, departmental meetings, applicable trainings and/or events to remain abreast of new policies and procedures affecting the conduct of protocols.

· Maintains knowledge of clinical trial process

Education Required - Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related business specialty.

Experience Required - Five years experience in data analysis, accounting or financial project management.
