Description:

The employee will take a leading role in constructing an integrated social-economic-environmental impact modeling framework that will provide linkages and interactions within a regional food system involving fruit and vegetable producers, consumers, supply chain system, socio-economic models, and environmental impact (water, soil, climate) models using multi-agent simulation methods to estimate and project cost, benefit, and other effects triggered by system shocks.The employee will have already acquired a Ph.D. or equivalent acceptable degree and should be able to exercise scientific judgment on a day-to-day basis. The employee will evaluate incoming information in the form of experimental data and observations, written literature documentation, and oral communications, and will use this information to make judgments about what steps will next lead to progress in the project.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit:

The Cooperative Extension at North Carolina A&T State University supports innovative programs to serve small producers to enhance productivity, profitability, and sustainability. The Small Farm Unit is a part of the Cherry Research Farm which has a partnership through the Center for Environmental Farming Systems including NCSU , NCA &T, and North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

Requirements:

  1. Ph.D. awarded or soon to be awarded in the area of economics, agricultural economics, applied economics, engineering and/or related disciplines that fits within the scope of the duties and responsibilities.

  2. A strong theoretical, modeling, and computational background with evidence of the skills related to Multi-Agent Simulation modeling; economics, simulation modeling, computer programming, GIS mapping, and integrated social-economic-environmental impact analyses; knowledge and experiences in the US food systems will be a plus.
