Job Overview:
The Associate Pipeline Welding Engineer is responsible for the development of project welding procedures that comply with the applicable Design, Engineering and Construction Codes, Standards and Project specifications. The role supports Principal/Senior Welding Engineer on the project to deliver the PPG – Welding Engineering deliverables on time and in budget.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Responsible for maintaining the project welder qualification program
Liaise with Welding School Supervisor, Production Supervisor, Certifying Authority
Liaise with Operations Manager (Fabrication / Marine), Discipline Managers, PMT, Customers, Operations /Field Engineers, QC/NDT Engineers. Certifying Authority, Other Technical Agencies (for e.g. TWI, DNVGL)
Review customer drawings / specifications for material and welding requirements to determine the necessary WPS / PQR required assuring the integrity of the weldment
Select the electrode / consumables and estimate quantities required for project
Source materials required for WPS/PQR's
Determine Joint Design
Optimize Welding Process
Apply code and specification requirements to the proposed WPS
Develop project and task specific Welding Qualification Execution plans
Submittal of WPS PQR packages for the project
Tool box talks and conducting Welding kick-offs
Develop the Project Pipeline Welding Execution Plan along with Senior Welding Engineer that define the full scope of Weld Procedures required, schedule of qualification, quantity of electrodes and materials required for qualification. Ensure that proper priorities relevant to project schedules are established and review progress
Support the lead welding engineers in qualification welding procedures and welder qualifications at WTC- PPG
Supervise PQR’s on site and witness tests at laboratoryo Prepare weld procedure specificationo Liaison for welder qualification tests and prepares the associated documentationo Assess quantity of production weld testing required and ensures their timely performance and testing
Responsible for seeking the review and approval of all Project Pipeline Weld Procedures through direct and indirect communications with the customer and Certifying Authority
Coordinate with test houses regarding testing of welding qualification coupons
Co-ordinate the technical selection of welding wires and repair electrodes based on their physical and chemical and corrosion properties as well as considering their weldability and economics. Conduct regular review of Welding Consumables requirements v/s availability to ensure availability of the same
Manage welding school facility for the training and development of the workforce to improve the welding methodology and good workmanship practices
Support Senior/Principal Welding Engineers for tracking the assigned project welding engineering budget and project schedule
Review of vendor documents related to Welding Engineering
Assist Senior/Principal Welding Engineer on Bid stage: review and summary of customer specifications, identify bid qualifications and clarifications, project welder and procedure qualification requirements, welding consumables requirements and also generate the pipeline cycle times/lay rates. Identify any special needs that may be need for execution
Other duties related to pipeline production; welding engineering as directed by Senior Manager Welding Engineering - PPG
Essential Qualifications and Education:
0-3 years experience within the offshore construction industry primarily within pipeline production roles
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Metallurgy is preferable
Know how of rigid pipeline production
Experience of engaging with multi-functional / discipline teams
Communication and presentation skills, both written and spoken
