The Opportunity

This position works out of our Columbus, OH location in the Nutrition Division .

This position will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Laboratory Operations at Abbott Nutrition Commercial Manufacturing Plants. The position leads or coordinates support to site laboratories in all areas of operation and oversees laboratory compliance to Quality and Regulatory requirements.

Core Job Responsibilities

Monitors ingredient, product, process, package quality performance and identifies microbiological quality related issues and trends. Independently works with functional, operations and commercial groups to develop and implement corrective actions in order to support lab quality/safety.

Works closely with R&D, Site Manufacturing teams, Division QA, IT, and Engineering on problems of diverse and challenging scope requiring innovative solutions guided by familiar policies and practices.

Knowledgeable in the areas of food safety, hazard analysis, quality risk assessment, statistical process control and other advanced data analysis/problem solving techniques.

Technical expert in laboratory operation components.

Contribute to the oversight and/or preparation of Quality documentation to support policy/procedures and methodologies.

What You’ll Work On

  • Act as SME on lab processes which may include testing workflow, lab investigations, quality monitoring, operations support, safety, vendor management, waste processing, operation model, consumable management, calibration, maintenance, validation, documentation, audit readiness, asset management, and electronic systems.

  • Act at liaison between site labs and R&D organization.

  • Support internal and external audits and audit-readiness activities.

  • Manage Division programs which support plant lab activity.

  • Provide technical expertise to other Abbott projects/initiatives.

  • Provide support (technical, project management, etc.) to other Division Quality or R&D groups/programs.

  • Manage designated areas within the laboratory quality system which includes owning procedures and CAPA activities.

  • Engage with sites to resolve events or challenges impacting labs.

  • Lead or support continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Lead or support projects which impact multiple sites labs.

  • With minimal supervision, can apply experience to effectively anticipate and prioritize potential quality issues even in new, novel situations.

  • Has broad understanding of implications of issues. Independently assesses risk of most important issues and develops action plans to minimize.

  • Understands the broad implications of decisions across functions. Exhibits broad understanding of the impact of quality related design criteria on product and operational costs.

  • Applies communication skills to influence decisions and other functional groups.

  • Ability to identify and articulate costs, risks and benefits of alternative solutions.

  • May be responsible to track and report project costs and expenses.

  • Makes independent decisions having moderate risk profiles due to the individual's broad base of knowledge and judgment.

  • Able to solve complex technical issues and ensures follow up and proactive resolution in conjunction with their manager.

  • Capacity to manage multiple assignments and/or tasks concurrently while meeting appropriate deadlines.

  • May lead or influence teams and provide direction to accomplish specific objectives within scope of resources and time.

  • Frequently interacts with all levels across the Division and production facilities, especially functional peer project managers and other Division management.

  • May also interact with Corporate and other divisions, as well as outside Regulatory Agencies.

  • Monitors quality performance criteria, identifies trends. Recommends corrective action and, where appropriate, independently acts to implement corrective action.

  • Acts as a resource and coach to members of site laboratories.

  • Interacts effectively with people of varying functions and levels of expertise.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE, YOU’LL BRING

Required:

  • Bachelors Degree in Chemistry or similar Laboratory-related discipline (Biology, Food Science).

  • Combined years of experience +7 years

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of applicable regulatory standards and requirements for laboratories and infant formula & nutritionals products/processes.

  • Preferred skillset in project Management, data analysis, and/or laboratory management

MISC:

  • This is an onsite role in Columbus, Oh - not a remote role

The base pay for this position is $95,000.00 – $190,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
