Iowa Connections Academy (IACA) is a tuition-free, full-time virtual public school for students in grades K-12 throughout Iowa. The school operates in partnership with the CAM Community School District in Anita, IA. IACA is accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement, an accrediting division of AdvancED.

Position Summary

Working in your home office in Iowa, the Intervention Specialist will assist students who are at risk of failing courses. Additionally, students who have failed courses will receive information from the Intervention Specialist about credit recovery opportunities. You will also be the point person and lead for our MTSS program and student intervention identification.

Important functions of the job include analyzing data, working with individual students or small groups, and training and supporting teachers through the intervention process.

The Intervention Specialist will be responsible for the successful completion of the following tasks:

  • Identify at-risk students based on student grades and test scores that are below proficiency level, and could include:
  • State Standardized Tests
  • Attendance records, discipline records, communication logs, RTI meeting minutes, grade retention records, and transcripts;
  • Current grade book
  • District Assessments
  • Develop and train teachers on individual intervention strategies to increase the likelihood that these students will stay in school, advance to the next grade, meet standards or exhibit growth on future state assessments, and graduate on time;
  • Create and conduct Professional Development opportunities for staff;
  • Assign and monitor appropriate Supplemental Instructional Support Programs (SISPs) to students;
  • Implement a Response to Intervention (RtI) program;
  • Work with students to develop an individual achievement plan to include the best program to meet academic and post-secondary goals;
  • Assist with the development of a transition program for 9th graders to successfully adapt to the rigor and expectations of high school;

``` - Create and deliver instructional lesson plans using the curriculum, state standards, and digital resources to devise alternate approaches to presenting lessons to increase student engagement and understanding (working directly with students and parents); - Communicate with Caretakers, Learning Coaches, students, and other teachers regularly to develop and update Personal Learning Plans and schedules, score assessments, provide feedback on student work, suggest instructional approaches and strategies, monitor completion of assignments, and coach special projects; - Consult with other teachers, professional staff, and learning specialists to develop accommodations, alternate enrichment activities, and modifications to students programs to increase student understanding; - Work with other teachers to coordinate social activities and relevant field trips for students; - Manage and attend field trips and make efforts to integrate virtual and in-person trips into the curriculum; - Devise and implement virtual methods of creating and maintaining a school community; - Participate in the organization and administration of the State Testing, as directed; - Participate in student recruiting sessions and other marketing efforts that require teacher representation; and

Requirements

  • Iowa Endorsement: K-12 Reading Specialist
  • English as a Second Language preferred.
  • Strong technology skills (especially with Microsoft OS, MS Office programs, and Google Suite
  • Ability to analyze, develop, implement, and track intervention plans a d strategies
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Excellent ability to manage time
