University of Virginia Assistant/Associate Professor in Charlottesville, Virginia

The Kendall Laboratory within the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Cancer Biology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine is seeking a non-tenure track assistant/associate professor to work on projects investigating host-microbe-pathogen interactions.

In collaboration/under the supervision of Dr. Kendall, the incumbent will perform research studying how microbes affect colonic health, including how pathogens establish infection and how members of the microbiota affect colonic physiology. In addition to working on established projects, the incumbent will initiate new lines of investigation to study host-pathogen interactions. The incumbent is expected to work independently, develop research ideas, including writing and submitting grant applications, train students and other research personnel, develop and optimize experimental protocols, provide feedback. Research activity broadly includes molecular biology-, immunology-, microbiology and biochemistry-based approaches as well as incorporation of tissue culture and murine models as appropriate.

Applicants must have a Ph.D., or equivalent degree, and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in Microbiology or Infectious Disease or a relevant field. A successful applicant will also have demonstrable research accomplishments and plans of outstanding quality and significance, as well as a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring. Enthusiasm for participating in a diverse, collegial, interdisciplinary, and collaborative environment is strongly preferred.
