The Opportunity

The Team Lead for the Proposal Writing & Editing Team within Abt’s Proposal Center of Excellence (PCOE) provides direction and oversight to a global team of proposal writers and editors that support proposal efforts for multiple client accounts. You will set the standard for proposal writing excellence and lead the Proposal Writing team in partnering with our portfolio domain experts to develop professionally written proposals that clearly articulate Abt’s value proposition, win themes, features, and benefits to US Federal Civilian agencies.

As the Team Lead you play a critical role in defining the vision for the Writing & Editing Team including setting the people path, deploying the team on our largest and most transformational opportunities, and support growing the business by delivering professional proposal writing development and management guidance, leadership, and resources across the enterprise. You will drive awareness and adoption of proposal writing best practices across the organization and contribute to innovating new company-wide approaches for proposal writing.

Core Responsibilities

  • Set and execute functional strategy and the operational direction of the Proposal Writing & Editing Team.

  • Provide direction and oversight of the Team, deploying our staff of proposal writers on bid efforts.

  • Engage productively with CGO and Portfolio leaders, identifying and resolving issues, gaining consensus through effective communication and collaboration across the organization.

  • Model and provide guidance on industry best practice proposal writing processes that ensures responsiveness, clarity, coherence, and compliance with solicitation requirements.

  • Provide ongoing coaching and mentoring of the Proposal Writing & Editing Team.

  • Support key transformational bids directly, facilitating storyboarding sessions, collaborating with bid solution leads to develop content creation plans mapping solutions designed in capture to solicitation requirements, and guiding content development from authors (SMEs, Liaisons, partners, etc.).

  • Craft compelling content that effectively communicates our value proposition.

  • Conduct substantive editing of proposal responses to enhance coherence and strengthen arguments.

  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and guidelines, such as Shipley-based proposal development processes.

What We Value

  • Bachelor’s Degree + 9 years of relevant experience, or Master’s Degree + 7 years of relevant experience, or a PHD + 4 years of experience

  • 7+ years’ experience in writing and editing proposals for US Government Federal Civilian clients.

  • The ability to articulate complex ideas clearly, concisely, and persuasively.

  • Effective research skills to gather relevant information from various sources, including understanding the client's requirements, industry trends, and competitor analyses.

  • The ability to synthesize information and present it coherently in a page-limited and prescriptive proposal format.

  • Attention to detail, complex problem-solving, and effective time-management skills.

  • Demonstrated experience in successfully writing and editing proposals for US Federal Civilian agencies.

  • Familiarity with Shipley-based proposal development process.

  • USAID-specific experience preferred.

  • APMP membership preferred.

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of $92,000 to $146,000 and may vary by ten percent depending on candidate geographic location. Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis.
