Job Description Summary

Responsible for assisting in the building and maturation of the Transamerica Asset Management (TAM) internal controls program within the first line of defense. Responsible for the identification, design, assessment, and management of key controls and processes within TAM and to ensure the business procedures and/or financial controls are in compliance with applicable regulatory and corporate standards and practices. Develop and maintain relationships with appropriate business management and process owners, as well as risk management personnel (second line of defense).

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Consult on the design and development of internal controls and processes and make recommendations for improvement and efficiency.

  • Assist in documenting financial/accounting/actuarial/operational process flows and procedures.

  • Aid in the development and implementation of goals, policies, priorities and procedures relating to internal controls over financial reporting.

  • Support the execution of management’s risk assessment and scoping activities to ensure proper risk identification, process mapping and controls linkage for a sustainable internal control framework.

  • Collaborate with business owners in the identification of control gaps/processes weaknesses, and aid in the development of corrective action and risk mitigation plans.

  • Partner with the second line the in development and implementation of a system to capture and track control deficiencies, as well as internal and external audit findings to resolution.

  • Work with external auditors to plan and implement an assessment of the control environment, coordination of timing and execution of process walkthroughs, and a process for timely sharing of potential issues for resolution with respect to internal controls.

  • Prepare updates to management, to include project and Board reporting .

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or relevant field, or equivalent work experience.

  • Typically five years of experience in internal controls, audit or risk management within the financial services industry.

  • Experience working on internal audits and/or operational risk assessments.

  • Ability to document and verbally communicate financial reporting processes in a clear and concise manner, including assessment of design and operating effectiveness of controls.

  • Communication skills to educate/raise awareness of foundational elements/methodologies needed to support an internal control framework.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA, CIA

  • Big 4 public accounting or regional accounting experience working with internal controls over financial reporting.

  • Experience implementing, managing & maintaining Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC) technologies.

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid employees will need to work at a Company office location at times and a remote work location (typically their home) at times.

    The Salary for this position generally ranges between $77,000-$100,000 annually . This range is an estimate, based on potential qualifications and operational needs. Salary may vary above and below the stated amounts, as permitted by applicable law.

    Additionally, t his position is typically eligible for an Annual Bonus based on the Company Bonus Plan/Individual Performance and is at Company d iscretion.
